Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese sidelined for season with wrist injury

CHICAGO – Angel Reese’s remarkable rookie season has come to an abrupt end. The talented Chicago Sky forward announced on social media
Saturday night that she has suffered a season-ending injury, later confirmed by the team to be a wrist injury.

Reflecting on her truncated season, Reese expressed gratitude for the opportunity to showcase her skills in the league and vowed to return stronger in the future. Despite the setback, she remains optimistic about her future in the WNBA.

The seventh overall pick in the draft, Reese made waves by averaging 13.6 points and an astonishing 13.1 rebounds per game, setting a new record for the highest rebound average in WNBA history. Her incredible performance included 26 double-doubles, further solidifying her place as a standout rookie in the league.

Reese’s impact extended beyond the court, as her rivalry with fellow rookie Caitlin Clark from Indiana drew significant attention and boosted ratings, attendance, and merchandise sales for the WNBA this season.

Despite her injury, Reese’s legacy in the league is undeniable, with numerous records broken throughout the season, including a remarkable streak of 15 consecutive games with a double-double and setting the record for total rebounds in a season.

As Chicago fights for a playoff spot, Reese remains determined to make an impact and is already looking forward to participating in the new 3-on-3 league, Unrivaled, set to begin in the winter in Miami.
