Matt Chapman Signs $151 Million Contract Extension with San Francisco Giants
San Francisco Giants’ star third baseman Matt Chapman has agreed to a lucrative contract extension worth $151 million over six years, covering the 2025-2030 seasons. This deal effectively makes Chapman give up his opportunity to test free agency after the current season.
As part of the contract, Chapman will receive a $1 million signing bonus, payable in January 15, and an annual salary of $25 million. With this extension, he is set to earn a total of $169 million over seven seasons, from 2024 to 2030.
Chapman originally joined the Giants as a free agent back in March, signing a three-year deal worth $54 million which allowed him to opt out after the 2024 and 2025 seasons. The initial contract included a $2 million signing bonus and a $16 million salary for the 2024 season.
On the field, Chapman has been a standout performer for the Giants, leading the team in several categories including batting average, home runs, RBIs, runs scored, and doubles. The 31-year-old infielder is a four-time Gold Glove winner and boasts a career batting average of .241 with 177 homers and 495 RBIs across his stints with Oakland, Toronto, and now San Francisco.
Chapman was also named an All-Star in 2019, further solidifying his status as one of the premier players in Major League Baseball.
