Standoff on the East Side of San Antonio Ends Without Incident
An hours-long standoff on the East Side of San Antonio began early Monday morning after an armed man got into two separate disputes outside his apartment.
The first incident started when police responded to a call from landscaping employees who reported that a man threatened them with a knife on Dietrich Road. When officers arrived, they searched the area, including the man’s apartment. After attempting to communicate with him for half an hour, police left and issued an arrest warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Hours later, SAPD was called back to the complex after the man allegedly accosted a woman. He spat on her, grabbed her hair, and chased her with a knife. Bystanders intervened by throwing rocks at the man, prompting him to fire a gun into the air before retreating to his apartment.
SWAT and other officers attempted to communicate with the man to peacefully resolve the situation. Police even played a recording of a family member’s voice urging the man to surrender.
Some streets in the area were temporarily closed during the investigation. Fortunately, the standoff ended without any further incident, and the man was taken into custody.
Neighbors mentioned that the man may have a history of mental health issues, although his identity and criminal history have not been disclosed by the authorities.
