Welcome to the Future: Brooks Development Authority Receives $1.7 Million for Electric Vehicle Chargers
Exciting news for San Antonio as the Brooks Development Authority has secured $1.7 million in federal funding to install 24 electric vehicle chargers at three locations on its Southeast Side campus.
The Biden-Harris administration’s initiative to allocate more than half a billion dollars towards charging infrastructure across the country is a significant step towards supporting the EV revolution. With approximately 9,200 charging ports planned nationwide, the future looks bright for electric vehicle users.
According to U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, the administration is committed to ensuring America leads the way in the EV revolution, and the investment in a nationwide EV charger network is a key component of this vision.
Chief Strategy Officer Connie Gonzalez shared that the 24 charging stations will be distributed among an Embassy Suites, a multi-family apartment complex, and a food manufacturer at Brooks. The installation will include 16 Level 2 chargers and eight direct-current chargers, offering varying charging speeds to accommodate different needs.
While a completion date for the chargers’ availability is still pending, Brooks will assess the specific number of chargers needed at each site before finalizing the installation. This project is part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s Charging and Fueling Infrastructure Discretionary Grant Program.
All in all, this development marks a significant step towards a greener future and increased accessibility for electric vehicle users in San Antonio. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting initiative!
