The 49ers and Raiders End Preseason with a Bang in 24-24 Tie
LAS VEGAS – The San Francisco 49ers and Las Vegas Raiders ended their preseason matchup in a thrilling 24-24 tie on Friday night. Brock Purdy impressed with 9 of 12 passes completed for 96 yards, but also threw a red-zone interception, keeping the game tight until the end.
Daniel Carlson’s last-minute 43-yard field goal tied the game for the Raiders, making their record 0-2-1, while the 49ers stand at 1-1-1. Joshua Dobbs’ 10-yard touchdown pass to Jacob Cowing late in the third quarter put the 49ers ahead 24-21 in a back-and-forth battle.
Both teams took different approaches to the game, with the 49ers showcasing most of their starters in the first quarter, while the Raiders experimented with their backups vying for roster spots.
One standout player was quarterback Nathan Peterman, who unexpectedly started the game and delivered solid performance. Peterman completed 12 of 19 passes for 108 yards and a touchdown in the first half. Carter Bradley also showed promise, leading the tying drive and finishing with 9 of 21 passes completed for 169 yards, a TD, and an interception.
Standout plays included Tyreik McAllister’s impressive 81-yard punt return for a touchdown and a 35-yard TD reception. On the 49ers’ side, seasoned players like Deebo Samuel and George Kittle made impactful plays, with Kittle notching a highlight 19-yard catch.
Despite missing key players like Christian McCaffrey and Trent Williams due to injuries and contract disputes, the 49ers put on a strong performance at Allegiant Stadium. The game ended with Purdy leading the 49ers’ reserves to maintain their lead and secure a tie with the Raiders.
Both teams look ahead to the regular season opener, with the 49ers hosting the New York Jets on Sept. 9 and the Raiders visiting the Los Angeles Chargers on Sept. 8.
INJURIES: 49ers left defensive ends Yetur Gross-Matos and Leonard Floyd left with knee injuries.
