Commercial Ship Attacked in Red Sea, Suspected Houthis’ Assault

A commercial ship traveling through the Red Sea was left “not under command” after coming under repeated attacks on Wednesday. The British military has attributed this assault to Yemen’s Houthi rebels.

Details are scarce about the attack, which occurred amidst the Houthis’ ongoing campaign targeting ships during the Israel-Hamas conflict in the Gaza Strip.

According to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations center, the attack involved men on small boats opening fire with small arms, followed by the vessel being hit by three projectiles.

The UKMTO reported, “The vessel reports being not under command,” suggesting a loss of power. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties.

While the Houthis have not claimed responsibility for the attack yet, they typically take time to acknowledge their assaults.
