UVALDE, Texas – A recent report has shed light on the response of Border Patrol agents to the Robb Elementary shooting, revealing that nearly half of the agents did not have specific active shooter training beyond what they received in the USBP Academy.
The report disclosed that the Border Patrol’s tactical unit was instrumental in breaching a classroom, engaging in a gunfight with the shooter, and ultimately neutralizing the threat.
Prior to law enforcement’s confrontation with the gunman, a total of 78 Border Patrol agents were present at Robb Elementary. Shockingly, only 30 out of the 78 had completed a three-day active shooter training course, with ten having attended the more advanced Active Shooter Instructor Training.
Interestingly, the report highlighted that attendees of the training were informed on the first day that they would not be taught how to breach a locked room but rather instructed on alternative entry methods.
Alarmingly, 37 of the 78 agents (47.4%) had not received any additional active shooter training beyond what was provided at the USBP Academy, exposing clear training gaps within the agency.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection emphasized that their Border Patrol officers did not violate any rules, regulations, or laws in their response to the tragic incident at Robb Elementary School.
The report underlines the importance of ongoing training and preparedness for law enforcement officers in dealing with such critical situations.
