BOERNE, Texas – Nestled in the heart of Boerne, Texas, the Boerne Independent School District is making waves with its dedication to equipping students with practical, real-world skills. As the school year unfolds, one program shines bright: the Culinary Arts program, celebrating a decade of success.

The Culinary Arts program at Boerne ISD goes beyond traditional classroom learning, offering students hands-on experience in a real-world setting. This initiative not only enhances the educational journey of students but also arms them with valuable skills that can pave the way for fulfilling careers.

Trenton Haddock, a senior at Boerne ISD, is a testament to the program’s success, now in his fourth year of immersive culinary education. Haddock shares, “As the years have gone by, I have discovered my passion for cooking and creating meals for others. I truly enjoy it.”

Under the guidance of Amy Hogan, the Culinary Arts teacher at Boerne ISD, students delve into a four-year curriculum that mirrors real-life restaurant scenarios. From mastering the basics of safety and sanitation to honing culinary techniques, students learn the intricacies of the culinary world. The program also provides opportunities for students to gain work experience at local restaurants, enriching their learning journey.

Amy Hogan expresses her pride in her students’ growth, stating, “It feels gratifying to impart a skill that students can apply immediately. Whether it’s cooking a meal for their family or pursuing a culinary career, I am thrilled to be a part of their journey.”

With a strong emphasis on practical experience, the Culinary Arts program at Boerne ISD instills confidence and competence in its students. Nat Zamora, a program participant, commends the program for preparing students for the fast-paced kitchen environment while nurturing a sense of camaraderie and joy.

Currently boasting over 450 student enrollees, the Culinary Arts program at Boerne ISD continues to flourish, setting the stage for future growth and success. As the program marks a decade of excellence, the teachers anticipate further expansion and impact in the years to come.
