BEXAR COUNTY SHERIFF SEEKING INFORMATION ABOUT “PROWLER” APPROACHING CHILDREN

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office is reaching out to the community for help in identifying a male individual who approached two children in a vehicle as they were walking to school.

On Thursday, Sept. 19, in far west Bexar County, two children were reportedly approached by a male driving a dark-colored Mercedes-Benz sedan. The male driver allegedly called out to one of the children before the children ran and sought help from a neighbor.

Upon receiving the report, the sheriff’s office immediately took action by searching for surveillance footage in the area and increasing patrols to ensure the safety of the community.

Parents, guardians, and community members are reminded to stay vigilant and educate their children about safety measures. The sheriff’s office shared the following tips:

Talk to your children about what to do if they feel uncomfortable or threatened by a stranger. Emphasize the importance of running to a safe place.
Have important numbers saved on your child’s phone and teach them when to call those numbers in emergencies.
Teach your children the importance of not engaging with strangers.
Establish a network of trusted neighbors to help watch over children as they travel to and from school.
Keep the communication lines open with your children about their daily activities and encourage them to share any uncomfortable experiences.
