BCSO: Inmate in Bexar County Jail dies in cell after medical episode

Investigation Underway After Bexar County Jail Inmate Dies from Medical Episode

Tragedy struck the Bexar County Jail as officials are investigating the death of a 42-year-old inmate who passed away from a medical episode. The inmate, whose identity has not been disclosed, was discovered lifeless in his cell at around 11 p.m. on Sunday.

Deputies from the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office sprang into action, initiating an emergency medical code in an attempt to revitalize the inmate. Despite their efforts, the inmate was pronounced dead shortly after by San Antonio Fire Department officials, according to BCSO.

Initial reports from BCSO suggest that the inmate suffered a sudden medical issue leading to his untimely demise. The official cause of death will be determined by the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office.

This tragic incident marks the third death at the Bexar County Jail in September and the sixth since July 29. Precinct 2 Constable’s Office of Bexar County has taken charge of the death investigation, with BCSO’s Internal Affairs unit also conducting its inquiries.

Jail authorities have alerted the Texas Commission on Jail Standards about the incident, ensuring that proper procedures are followed in the aftermath of the inmate’s passing.
