Welcome to our latest blog post where we delve into recent incidents involving domestic violence and racial insensitivity within law enforcement. These cases shed light on the importance of accountability and respect in the criminal justice system.

A Dispatcher’s Termination

A Bexar County Sheriff’s Office dispatcher, Yesenia Brambila, was recently terminated following a disturbing incident where she assaulted her ex-spouse. The altercation took place when Brambila went to pick up her child from her ex’s residence, resulting in a physical confrontation. Brambila admitted to hitting her ex-spouse during an internal affairs investigation, leading to her dismissal from the Sheriff’s Office in May. She now awaits trial on assault charges, with a strict no-contact order in place.

Deputies Suspended for Racial Remarks

Two BCSO deputies, Leonard Lopez and Steven Womble, faced suspensions for using racially derogatory language while on duty at the Bexar County Courthouse complex. Lopez received a 45-day suspension for his offensive remarks, while Womble’s suspension was reduced to 10 days after a hearing with his union attorney. Both deputies were required to undergo racial sensitivity training as part of their disciplinary actions.

These incidents highlight the ongoing challenges of ensuring professionalism and respect within law enforcement organizations. It is crucial for officers to uphold the values of integrity and accountability in their interactions with the community.
