Babe Ruth’s Iconic Jersey Could Fetch $30 Million at Auction
Almost a hundred years after Babe Ruth famously called his shot during the 1932 World Series, the jersey he wore during that historic moment is set to go up for auction in Dallas with an estimated value of up to $30 million, as reported by AP News.
The jersey will be auctioned by Heritage Auctions on Saturday night in Dallas, offering sports fans and collectors alike a chance to own a piece of baseball history.
During Game 3 of the 1932 World Series between the New York Yankees and the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field, Babe Ruth famously pointed towards center field before hitting a home run off Cubs pitcher Charlie Root. This iconic gesture is known as the “called shot” and has gone down in baseball folklore as one of the most legendary moments in the sport.
The Yankees went on to win the game 7-5 and clinched the series the following day. This World Series marked Ruth’s last appearance, and the “called shot” remains his final home run in a World Series game.
According to Heritage, Ruth gifted the road jersey to a friend in Florida in the 1940s, and it remained in that family for decades before being sold at auction in 2005 for $940,000. The jersey is now being consigned to Heritage for the upcoming auction.
In a previous auction in 2019, another one of Ruth’s road jerseys dating back to 1928-30 sold for a whopping $5.64 million, showcasing the immense value and significance attached to memorabilia from the baseball legend.
Don’t miss your chance to own a piece of baseball history and bid on this iconic Babe Ruth jersey at the Heritage Auctions event. Get ready to step into the shoes of one of the greatest sports legends of all time!
