Unfortunately, the highly anticipated home football game between Appalachian State and Liberty in Boone, North Carolina had to be canceled due to severe weather conditions caused by Tropical Storm Helene. The heavy rains in the North Carolina mountains led to flooding in Boone, forcing the town to declare a state of emergency on Thursday.
The game, which was set to kick off at 3:30 p.m. EDT, will not be rescheduled, according to the school. Additionally, a home field hockey game between Appalachian State and Bellarmine that was scheduled for Friday was also canceled.
Tropical Storm Helene made its landfall in a remote area of Florida on Thursday night with winds reaching up to 140 mph (225 kph). The effects of the storm extended for hundreds of miles causing disruptions in various regions.
In another sporting event, the Nashville Predators had to postpone their NHL preseason game against the Tampa Bay Lightning due to severe weather conditions. The game has been rescheduled for Oct. 7.
