The Inspiring Story of Jesus Rendon: Building A Purpose

Driven by the belief that guiding students towards their paths is essential, Rendon founded Building A Purpose, a nonprofit organization dedicated to mentoring South San ISD students.

Rendon emphasizes, “Here at Building A Purpose, we believe that it’s better to change a mentor in high school than to change a major in college.” The goal of the nonprofit is to connect students with mentors in professions they aspire to explore.

Recognizing the challenges faced by families in the 78211 zip code, Building A Purpose aims to provide students in economically disadvantaged communities with opportunities for a brighter future.

The organization’s board of directors comprises like-minded leaders, including former South San ISD student Juan Elias, who returned to the community as a teacher after a military career. Elias and Rendon now collaborate at Building A Purpose to make a difference in students’ lives.

Despite the struggles faced by South San ISD, Rendon and the board remain focused on the students, setting aside politics to prioritize education and mentorship.
