The Juicy Return of Agatha Harkness: Kathryn Hahn Talks “Witches’ Road” and Empowerment

Kathryn Hahn reprises her role as the infamous witch, Agatha Harkness, and she couldn’t be more thrilled. The talented actress, known for her role in “Agatha All Along,” sees the continuation of the story as a natural progression.

In a recent interview with The Associated Press, Hahn expressed her excitement about the complex nature of her character. “You can see her as a simple bad witch, but she’s not. No one is bad,” Hahn said. “There’s always something that they’re covering up that they put all these levels on top of, so the fun was trying to keep the mask on with all these meteors of truth banging at that core.”

The new Marvel Television series, set to premiere on Disney+, continues the story of Agatha after the events of “WandaVision.” Agatha forms a coven to embark on a journey down the mythical Witches’ Road in search of reclaiming her powers. Despite Wanda Maximoff capturing her magic in the previous series, Hahn finds empowerment in her role as Agatha.

One of the key symbols of Agatha’s character is the Neopagan triple goddess — the maiden, mother, and crone. Hahn shared that these symbols of transformation in the female life cycle have resonated with her in her own life.

The series is filled with references to Neopaganism, Wiccan culture, and various witchy motifs. Notably, “The Wizard of Oz” serves as a significant inspiration for the show’s aesthetic and narrative structure.

Head writer and director Jac Schaeffer explained, “We’re in the land of witches. It was clear that it needed to be a quest structure. The movies I love from my childhood are all quests.”

The series also pays homage to other pop culture references, including Fleetwood Mac, “Mare of Easttown,” and “Big Little Lies.” Schaeffer and the team have carefully woven these allusions into the narrative to create a rich and immersive world.

The cast, including Patti LuPone, Aubrey Plaza, and others, come together to sing a memorable tune that sets the stage for the magical journey ahead. The camaraderie and chemistry among the ensemble cast members shine through, creating a powerful and captivating experience for viewers.

As the much-anticipated series prepares for its premiere, Schaeffer remains confident in the show’s ability to captivate audiences. With a blend of fantasy, mystery, and rich character dynamics, “Agatha All Along” promises to be a thrilling and enchanting ride for viewers.
