H3: San Antonio City Councilwoman Adriana Rocha Garcia Announces Run for Mayor in 2025

Exciting news emerged from San Antonio on Tuesday as City Councilwoman Adriana Rocha Garcia (D4) declared her candidacy for the 2025 mayoral race, making her the first woman to enter the race and the third city council member to do so.

Rocha Garcia shared her intentions in an exclusive interview with KSAT 12 News, revealing her plans to officially file the necessary paperwork next week.

As a South Side councilwoman, Rocha Garcia emphasized her desire to run with the intent to help the people of San Antonio, especially during what she anticipates to be challenging years ahead for the city.

Aside from her political endeavors, Rocha Garcia serves as an associate marketing professor at Our Lady of the Lake University. She currently chairs the council’s Planning and Community Development Committee and is also involved in the Community Health, Economic and Workforce Development, and Governance committees. Additionally, she holds the position of chairwoman of the San Antonio Housing Trust.

Growing up on the Southwest Side of San Antonio, Rocha Garcia understands the struggles and realities faced by many residents. She is a single mother who has navigated challenges similar to those in her community, which has fueled her passion to advocate for others seeking to improve their circumstances.

Rocha Garcia’s extensive experience in city governance, coupled with her background as a special projects manager under former city manager Sheryl Sculley, has uniquely positioned her to delve into the complexities of various policies and programs affecting the city.

Looking ahead, Rocha Garcia envisions a transformational path for San Antonio, emphasizing the city’s potential to become recognized as a city of the future. However, she acknowledges the economic challenges on the horizon, including decreased revenue streams from sales tax and CPS Energy, as well as potential cuts in federal funding.

Moreover, Rocha Garcia identifies crime as a significant concern for the city, emphasizing the importance of addressing both actual crime rates and the perceived safety of residents.

While the mayoral election is several months away, Rocha Garcia joins a handful of candidates vying for the position, including Councilman John Courage (D9), Councilman Manny Pelaez (D8), and tech entrepreneur Beto Altamirano. With Mayor Ron Nirenberg’s term ending, the upcoming election presents a unique opportunity for new leadership to shape the future of San Antonio.

Stay tuned for more updates on the 2025 mayoral race as candidates continue to emerge and share their visions for the city.
