AAPI Data survey: Harris more popular than Trump

Why Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Voters Favor Kamala Harris Over Trump

A recent poll shows that Vice President Kamala Harris is more favorably viewed by Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AAPI) registered voters compared to former President Donald Trump. The survey, conducted by AAPI Data and APIAVote, reveals that around six in ten AAPI voters have a positive opinion of Harris, while only around three in ten hold a positive view of Trump.

This increase in favorability towards Harris since October 2023 signifies a shift in AAPI voters’ perceptions. The data indicates that AAPI voters believe Harris better represents their background and policy views, especially as she has actively engaged with the community, particularly in swing states like Georgia.

While a significant portion of AAPI voters identify with Harris’ Asian Indian heritage, the poll reveals that her gender plays a more critical role in shaping perceptions. AAPI women, in particular, find Harris’ identity as a woman essential. Younger AAPI voters also prioritize her gender identity.

The survey further highlights the importance of combating racism within the political landscape. AAPI voters express a strong stance against discrimination, with a majority stating they could not support a candidate who does not share their views on racism and discrimination.

While opinions on the candidates vary within the AAPI community, the data suggests a growing favorability towards Harris and a skepticism towards Trump. The evolving political landscape presents opportunities for both parties to engage with and address the concerns of AAPI voters.
