SAN ANTONIO – The courtroom drama unfolds as the trial of Brandon Cervera, accused in the heartbreaking starvation death of his 4-year-old son, Benjamin Cervera, commences with opening arguments on Tuesday.
Brandon Cervera faces charges of injury to a child in connection to the tragic passing of Benjamin, who was discovered unresponsive on Aug. 17, 2021, as his stepmother rushed to get him to a hospital.
A devastating revelation followed when a medical examiner attributed Benjamin’s death to starvation, shedding light on the horrifying conditions he endured.
The family’s home painted a grim picture, with locks securing every cabinet and refrigerator where food should have been readily available.
Benjamin’s room was also equipped with locks and a gate, making it evident that extreme measures were taken to confine him.
Earlier this year, Miranda Casarez faced charges in connection to the case, was subsequently found guilty, and received a 25-year prison sentence.
