SAN ANTONIO – Two men were apprehended after a dramatic sequence of events involving the theft of a vehicle at gunpoint and a wild police chase in San Antonio.
The carjacking incident occurred at 3 p.m. on Monday in the 1000 block of Menchaca Street, setting off a chain of events that captured the attention of onlookers and law enforcement alike.
San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) officers engaged in a high-speed pursuit of the stolen vehicle, which came to a crashing halt in the 2400 block of Texas Avenue after a five-minute chase.
Authorities reported that there were two collisions during the chase, with one of the suspects intentionally ramming the stolen vehicle into a SAPD vehicle before the crash. The suspect then attempted to flee the scene but was caught after assaulting an officer.
The apprehended suspect will be facing charges of assaulting a peace officer, among other offenses, according to SAPD.
The other suspect, trapped in the stolen vehicle after the crash, was taken into custody without further incident. A revolver was recovered from the stolen vehicle by police.
Both suspects are facing the serious charge of aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon and may be subject to additional charges pending further investigation.
