The game company Cards Against Humanity is taking legal action against Elon Musk’s SpaceX, seeking $15 million in damages. The lawsuit alleges that SpaceX has trespassed on South Texas land and caused destruction of property.
Cards Against Humanity filed the lawsuit in Cameron County and has set up a website to raise awareness about the legal battle. The complaint asserts that SpaceX has transformed the company’s once untouched land into a construction site, disrupting the natural environment with buildings, machinery, and construction materials.
In 2017, Cards Against Humanity initiated a fund-raising campaign called CAH Saves America to purchase land to prevent the construction of a border barrier proposed by former President Donald Trump. This land is now owned by the company and is located near SpaceX’s launch site in South Texas.
Should Cards Against Humanity succeed in the lawsuit, it plans to distribute the net proceeds equally among the 150,000 contributors to the CAH Saves America campaign, up to $100 each.
The company stated on their website: “150,000 people gave us their hard-earned money, and in exchange we vowed to protect this land from racist billionaires and their dumb vanity projects.”
Aside from Cards Against Humanity, other South Texas residents have raised concerns about SpaceX’s operations in the region. A recent Reuters article highlighted the apprehensions of locals, including those in Brownsville, regarding Musk’s rapid expansion and its impact on their properties.
