The Latest News: American Golfers from LIV Golf Eligible for Ryder Cup
The eligibility of U.S. Open champion Bryson DeChambeau and other American players from LIV Golf for the Ryder Cup is now confirmed. The Saudi-funded tour has been included among nine tours that receive PGA of America membership, ensuring that players from LIV can participate in the prestigious event.
Interim CEO of the PGA of America, Kerry Haigh, clarified that there was never a serious doubt about the inclusion of LIV Golf players in the 2025 Ryder Cup or beyond. The organization sought clarity amidst speculation about the eligibility of players.
The PGA of America offers various membership classes, including A-3 membership for tour professionals around the world. Haigh explained that LIV events were not initially counted towards A-3 membership, but now they are recognized along with nine other tours.
Players from LIV Golf will still need to pay annual dues, but they are now eligible for the PGA Championship and the U.S. Ryder Cup team. The PGA of America board has ensured that the best American players will have access to these prestigious events.
Notable players like Brooks Koepka have benefited from LIV Golf’s inclusion, receiving invitations to the PGA Championship and making it to the Ryder Cup team. U.S. captain Keegan Bradley emphasized the importance of having the best American players on the team, regardless of their tour affiliations.
While the European tour also requires players to maintain membership for Ryder Cup eligibility, there are ongoing discussions surrounding players like Jon Rahm, who are appealing sanctions for participating in LIV Golf events.
