Tell us your story!
As a professional musician for over a decade, my journey began at a young age, singing alongside my granddaddy, a Southern Baptist preacher in North Florida. Music has been my lifelong passion, offering solace and joy in the different stages of my life. I relocated to San Antonio to pursue my music career, and the vibrant music community here has been a source of inspiration and collaboration.
What’s the inspiration behind your sound?
My music draws inspiration from personal experiences, reflecting on life’s journey through heartfelt lyrics. From heartbreaks to joys of matrimony and motherhood, each song embodies a part of my story. My sound resonates with the essence of authenticity and relatability, connecting with listeners on a profound level.
What’s your songwriting process like?
Songwriting is a deeply personal and challenging process for me. It requires focus and time, which can be scarce as a mother. Collaborating with fellow musicians enhances my creativity and allows for a richer tapestry of melodies and lyrics to unfold. Each song is a labor of love, developed organically over time, culminating in a piece of art that reflects my innermost thoughts and emotions.
How do you feel about the evolution of the local music scene?
The local music scene in San Antonio has undergone a transformation, especially in the wake of the pandemic. The community has become more collaborative, supportive, and less competitive, fostering a sense of unity and inclusivity among musicians. There is a growing presence of female artists and a spirit of camaraderie that is reshaping the musical landscape in a positive way.
What do you envision for the future of the SA music scene?
I believe that San Antonio’s music scene would benefit from more intimate listening room experiences, providing a platform for local musicians and songwriters to showcase their talent in an immersive setting. By educating the audience and creating such welcoming spaces, we can amplify the voices of diverse artists and create a culture of appreciation and respect for live music.
What’s the story behind one of your songs?
“The Cowboy Kind” holds sentimental value for me as it was penned by my late uncle and rediscovered in his songwriting archives. The song’s timeless melody and heartfelt lyrics resonate deeply with me, taking on new meaning as I perform it in honor of my family. This song is a testament to the enduring power of music to transcend generations and create lasting memories.
What’s next for you?
Exciting projects lie ahead, including the release of “The Cowboy Kind”, a heartfelt tribute to my uncle, and other unreleased tracks. Collaborations with fellow musicians and a commitment to sharing my music with a wider audience are at the forefront of my musical journey.
