Dean DeSoto, the director of the Community Alliance of Traffic Safety, attributes the high number of accidents on Culebra Road to limited lighting, poorly placed crosswalks, and speeding drivers. He emphasizes the importance of both drivers and pedestrians following safety protocols to prevent further tragedies.
The city is actively seeking solutions to improve safety on Culebra Road, including exploring additional funding for infrastructure improvements. In the meantime, it is crucial for everyone to prioritize safety by practicing caution and awareness while on the road.
Jennifer Northway, the Director of Injury Prevention at University Health, stresses the importance of simple safety measures such as looking both ways, making eye contact with drivers, and using designated crosswalks.
