NEW YORK – Sean “Diddy” Combs has made headlines once again by returning his key to New York City after a request from Mayor Eric Adams. This decision came in response to a disturbing video that surfaced showing the music mogul attacking R&B singer Cassie, according to officials.
The mayor’s office revealed that Combs returned the key after Adams sent letters to the musician’s offices in New York and California on June 4, rescinding the key and requesting its return to City Hall. The key was officially received by the city on June 10.
In his letter, Adams expressed his deep concern over the attack, condemning the actions and showing solidarity with all survivors of domestic and gender-based violence.
Combs’ career has been marred by various accusations of sexual abuse and a federal criminal sex-trafficking investigation, resulting in raids of his mansions in Los Angeles and Miami.
Recently, security video of Combs assaulting Cassie in a hotel hallway in Los Angeles in 2016 was aired by CNN. Following this, Combs publicly apologized for his actions, stating that he was genuinely sorry and his behavior was inexcusable. Cassie, also known as Casandra Ventura, filed a lawsuit against Combs last year, which was settled shortly after.
Despite these controversies, Combs was honored with the key to the city by Adams at a ceremony last year, coinciding with the release of a new album.
However, Howard University took a stand this month by revoking an honorary degree awarded to Combs and discontinuing a scholarship program named after him, all due to the incident involving Cassie.
Combs, the founder of Bad Boy Records, has been a major figure in the hip-hop industry for the past three decades, building a successful business empire from his musical accomplishments.
An email inquiry to Combs’ representative went unanswered at the time of reporting.
