Welcome to Uber’s New Safety Measures!
San Antonio – Uber is rolling out new safety measures to provide extra peace of mind for drivers and riders alike.
Riders can now receive a verified badge after undergoing additional verification steps to confirm their identity.
Uber will review account details like names and phone numbers, cross-referencing them with trusted third-party databases to verify the majority of riders without any action needed on their part.
In addition, riders can upload government-issued identification along with a selfie to obtain the verified badge.
Drivers will be able to see the riders’ verified badges when deciding whether to accept a trip, offering an added layer of security.
Uber leadership reported that drivers who participated in the pilot program felt safer knowing riders’ identities and verified users received fewer serious complaints from drivers.
This verification program is just one of the safety features being introduced to Uber drivers nationwide.
Other new features include:
- Record My Ride – allows drivers to use their front-facing camera to record trips without a dash camera.
- PIN Verification – helps confirm drivers are picking up the correct person by requiring a four-digit code before the trip starts.
- Ride Accountability – provides warnings and tips to improve rider behavior based on driver feedback. Drivers can also block future requests from riders they rate poorly.
- Rider fare clarity – offers drivers better insight into their earnings and where riders’ payments are allocated.
