Brewers top Phillies 6-2 in battle of NL top teams

Welcome to the Milwaukee Brewers Blog!

MILWAUKEE – Joey Ortiz and William Contreras each drove in two runs, and the Milwaukee Brewers took a significant step towards clinching the NL Central title by defeating the NL East-leading Philadelphia Phillies 6-2 on Monday night.

The Brewers’ magic number is down to two as they aim for their third division championship in the past four years. Milwaukee can secure the title on Tuesday night with a win and a Chicago Cubs loss to Oakland.

Brewers’ starter Aaron Civale (9-8) put on an impressive performance, scattering seven hits, striking out six, and allowing just one run and one walk in five innings.

Colin Rea, in his fourth relief appearance of the season, pitched 2 2/3 shutout innings to earn his first career save at the age of 34. Rea’s effort helped bolster a bullpen that was short on arms following a tough extra-inning loss to Arizona the night before.

Blake Perkins and Brandon Marsh were notable contributors for the Brewers, while Contreras and Ortiz shone with crucial hits that propelled the team to victory.

Contreras’ two-run double and Ortiz’s RBI triple were key moments in the game, extending the lead over the Phillies and showcasing the Brewers’ offensive prowess.

Despite a strong showing from the Phillies, the Brewers maintained their grip on the game, with Hoby Milner stepping in to retire key batters and secure the win for Milwaukee.

The victory not only brought the Brewers closer to the NL Central title but also set a franchise record with Rea becoming the 12th pitcher to record a save this season.

Looking ahead, the Brewers will continue their quest for the division crown, with upcoming matchups against formidable opponents like the Phillies.

Stay tuned for more exciting Brewers action and updates as the team marches towards postseason glory!
