San Francisco 49ers’ Christian McCaffrey Ruled Out of Weekend Game Due to Injury
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey has been ruled out of this weekend’s game for the San Francisco 49ers due to lingering calf and Achilles injuries, raising the possibility of him being placed on injured reserve.
McCaffrey missed practice on Friday after experiencing pain and was subsequently ruled out of the game against Minnesota. This decision comes after McCaffrey expressed hope earlier in the week that he would be able to play.
Coach Kyle Shanahan mentioned that the team is considering placing McCaffrey on injured reserve for a minimum of four weeks, a move that was not previously on the table. Shanahan stated, “It’s something we’re considering now… It’s on and off, but with yesterday having the most pain, it’s something we’re going to be discussing here in the next 24 hours.”
McCaffrey sustained his injuries early in training camp and has been dealing with setbacks ever since. His absence has forced the Niners to rely on backup Jordan Mason, who delivered a strong performance in the team’s recent victory over the New York Jets.
Despite McCaffrey’s absence, the 49ers managed to secure a win, showcasing the team’s resilience and adaptability in his absence.
The Vikings, meanwhile, will be without key offensive player Jordan Addison, who suffered an ankle injury in Week 1. In addition, Minnesota listed three other players as questionable for the upcoming game.
In other injury news, San Francisco’s defensive end Yetur Gross-Matos is set to return after missing the opener, while safety Talanoa Hufanga and linebacker Dee Winters face uncertainties due to their respective injuries.
