Remembering 9/11: Honoring the Victims
September 11, 2024 marks the 23rd anniversary of the tragic attacks on American soil.
As we reflect on that fateful day, the words “Never forget” ring in our ears, reminding us of the nearly 3,000 lives lost and the countless others forever changed. Communities across the nation come together to pay tribute to the victims through memorials, services, and events.
If you’re looking to participate in a ceremony or memorial event to honor the memory of 9/11, here are some locations in San Antonio hosting special events:
- 9/11 Memorial Climb by San Antonio 110: Join first responders from all over the state and country as they climb the Tower of the Americas twice to exceed the height of the World Trade Center Towers. The event takes place at 8 a.m. on September 11.
- Freedom Walk at Canyon Lake Dam: Experience the firefighter walk, followed by a ceremony at Canyon Lake Dam starting at 8 a.m.
- San Antonio College: Head to the SAC mall outside the Chance Academic Center at 9 a.m. for Patriot Day hosted by the college and the First Responders Academy.
- St. Mary’s University: Join the 9/11 Commemoration at St. Mary’s University, starting at 2:45 p.m. with a prayer service at the Barrett Memorial Bell Tower.
- Travis Manion Foundation: Take part in the 9/11 Heroes Run at Mission County Park on September 14, starting at 7 a.m.
- Wagner High School: Judson ISD will honor the life and sacrifice of LTC Karen Wagner during the 9/11 memorial ceremony at 9 a.m. on September 11.
