Chicago – History was made on Monday night as Cleveland Guardians left-hander Joey Cantillo threw six perfect innings against the Chicago White Sox.
Cantillo recorded nine strikeouts in his fifth career start, showcasing his dominant pitching performance. The 24-year-old phenom threw 79 pitches, with an impressive 55 of them being strikes.
Recalled from Triple-A Columbus earlier in the day, Cantillo seized the opportunity and aimed for his first major league win. This opportunity arose after Alex Cobb was unable to start due to a blister on his right middle finger.
The White Sox, known for their struggles on offense, failed to connect against Cantillo’s impeccable pitching. The closest they came was when Jacob Amaya’s line drive was caught by third baseman José Ramírez for the final out of the sixth inning.
By the end of the sixth inning, Cleveland held a commanding 5-0 lead, with Cantillo’s flawless performance keeping the White Sox at bay.
