ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – Patti Scialfa, the talented spouse of Bruce Springsteen and member of the E Street Band, recently revealed that she has been battling multiple myeloma, a form of blood cancer.
During a documentary about the band that premiered on Sunday, the 71-year-old Scialfa disclosed that she was diagnosed with the disease in 2018.
Due to the condition, she has had to limit her touring with the band.
“This affects my immune system, so I have to be careful about my activities and where I choose to go,” she explained in the film, titled “Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.”
“Occasionally, I can make it to a show or two and perform a few songs on stage, and that has been a special experience,” she mentioned. “That’s my current reality, and I’m at peace with it.”
A spokesperson for Scialfa stated on Monday that no further details regarding her condition would be disclosed, including whether she is presently receiving treatment for the disease.
She was notably absent from the film’s debut in Toronto.
Scialfa has been a vital part of the E Street Band since 1984 and tied the knot with Springsteen in 1991. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014 and has also pursued a solo music career.
Springsteen had to postpone some tour dates in recent years due to health setbacks but is set to perform at a music festival in Asbury Park on Sept. 15.
