MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Tyreek Hill of the Miami Dolphins found himself in a challenging situation during a recent traffic stop. Hill was handcuffed and placed face down on the ground by police because he was not “immediately cooperative” with officers, according to the president of the South Florida police union.
The incident, which occurred outside the team’s home stadium, drew attention as fans and teammates witnessed the scene unfold just hours before the Dolphins’ season opener on Sunday.
Hill later expressed confusion over the situation, stating that he believed he was respectful and didn’t understand why the officers took the actions they did.
According to Stedman Stahl, president of the South Florida Police Benevolent Association, Hill’s handcuffing was in accordance with department policy and was done for the safety of the officers and those around him.
The incident has led to an internal review by the Miami-Dade Police department, with an officer being placed on administrative leave temporarily. The department has declined to release the body camera footage, citing an ongoing investigation.
Mayor Daniella Levine Cava commended the department for promptly launching an investigation, recognizing the importance of addressing issues related to the use of force.
The incident involving Hill has sparked discussions surrounding his past off-field behavior, adding to the scrutiny surrounding his actions both on and off the field.
Stay tuned for updates on this developing story as the investigation unfolds.
