A Texas Inmate Who Escaped Custody Is Captured in Calallen
Authorities have successfully apprehended Jesus Villarreal, a 39-year-old Texas Department of Criminal Justice inmate who escaped from the Huntsville unit on Sunday. Villarreal was tracked down more than 250 miles away in Calallen, Texas, just 15 miles west of downtown Corpus Christi.
According to TDCJ officials, Villarreal managed to flee his prison in the early hours of Sunday morning. He is currently serving a 63-year sentence for aggravated robbery and assault offenses from a case in Cameron County.
In addition to his current charges, Villarreal was also slapped with a deadly weapon possession charge while incarcerated in 2015.
Prison officials confirmed that Villarreal will now face multiple escape-related charges, all of which will be considered felonies.
