Vietnam orders evacuations, closes airports as Typhoon Yagi approaches landfall

HANOI – Vietnam is preparing for the impact of Typhoon Yagi, which is expected to make landfall in the northern provinces on Saturday afternoon. This powerful typhoon has already caused devastation in the Chinese province of Hainan, resulting in casualties and injuries.

Vietnamese meteorological authorities have classified Yagi as one of the most powerful typhoons in the region in recent years, with wind speeds reaching up to 166 kilometers per hour. This poses a significant threat to the coastal province of Quang Ninh, near the UNESCO World Heritage site Ha Long Bay. The government has issued evacuation alerts for those at risk of flooding or landslides, and airports have been closed in anticipation of the storm.

Yagi’s impact has already been felt in China, where it caused casualties and forced mass evacuations. The resilience of the affected regions is being tested as they deal with the aftermath of the typhoon. Despite the challenges, efforts are underway to ensure the safety and well-being of residents.

As Yagi continues its path, the importance of preparedness and emergency response becomes even more critical. By staying informed and following safety guidelines, communities can mitigate the impact of natural disasters and protect lives.
