New England town celebrates as birthplace of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Unveiling the Birthplace of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in Dover, New Hampshire

The iconic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles took the world by storm, but their origin story is often overlooked. Contrary to popular belief, these crime-fighting heroes were not born in the New York City sewers, but in the quiet city of Dover, New Hampshire.

A new exhibit at the Woodman Museum in Dover aims to shine a spotlight on the city’s role in the creation of the Turtles, enticing fans who have grown up following their adventures in comics, movies, and TV shows.

Kevin Eastman, one of the co-creators of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, emphasized the significance of Dover in the Turtles’ history. The exhibit showcases a colorful array of memorabilia, action figures, and artwork, immersing visitors in the world of the Turtles.

The exhibit takes guests on a journey back to Mirage Studios in Dover, where Eastman and Peter Laird brought their vision to life in a small, makeshift studio. What started as a passion project in their living room soon turned into a global phenomenon that captured the hearts of fans worldwide.

From humble beginnings to a multi-billion-dollar franchise, the Turtles’ legacy is on full display. Visitors can experience iconic moments from the Turtles’ history, play arcade games, and marvel at rare collectibles.

Central to the exhibit are bronze statues of the Turtles and their mentor, Master Splinter, symbolizing the enduring impact of these characters on popular culture. The exhibit serves as a tribute to the Turtles’ enduring appeal and the universal themes of teamwork and heroism.

Eastman’s vision for the exhibit is to celebrate the fans who have embraced the Turtles’ diverse personalities and their message of inclusivity. The Turtles’ mantra that “anyone can be a hero” resonates with audiences of all ages and backgrounds.

As visitors explore the exhibit, they are transported back to a time when four green, mutated turtles captured the imaginations of millions. The exhibit is not just a stroll down memory lane but a celebration of the enduring legacy of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
