Major construction closure this weekend for drivers near Forum on Northeast Side

SAN ANTONIO – Attention all drivers on the Northeast Side! Prepare for a major construction closure near the Forum this weekend.

As part of the I-35 Northeast Expansion (NEX) project, the westbound collector ramp of Loop 1604 at the I-35 interchange and the northbound connector ramp of I-35 to westbound Loop 1604 will be fully closed for the installation of steel girders.

This closure is scheduled to begin on Friday at 9 p.m. (Sept. 6) and will remain in effect until Monday at 5 a.m. (Sept. 9). Detour information provided by TxDOT is outlined below, along with a helpful map.

Loop 1604 westbound to I-35 southbound

All traffic on the Loop 1604 westbound main lanes will utilize the collector ramp to enter the I-35 northbound main lanes. For those heading to the SB I-35 main lanes, take Exit 173 to Olympia Parkway, use the Olympia Parkway bridge to access the I-35 southbound frontage road, and then enter the I-35 southbound main lanes at the next entrance ramp.

I-35 northbound to Loop 1604 westbound

All traffic on the I-35 northbound main lanes should take Exit 173 to Olympia Parkway, use the Olympia Parkway bridge to access the I-35 southbound frontage road, and then enter the I-35 southbound main lanes. Continue to the collector ramp to reach the Loop 1604 westbound main lanes.
