SAN ANTONIO – H-E-B is making a positive impact in the fight against hunger by donating truckloads of apples to the San Antonio Food Bank and other food banks across the state.
A total of 17 truckloads of apples were delivered by the grocer to food banks that are part of the Feeding Texas Network as part of their commitment to Hunger Action Month, recognized in September.
H-E-B plans to collaborate with schools, food banks, and nonprofits to continue supporting those in need during Hunger Action Month and beyond.
Statistics show that one in eight Texans have faced the threat of hunger, making initiatives like these crucial in fighting food insecurity in the state.
Texas is among nine states with greater food insecurity rates than the national average, as reported by the nonprofit Feeding Texas.
H-E-B’s Hunger Relief program has been instrumental in providing over 33 million pounds of food to families in need last year alone, and has donated more than one billion pounds of food to 5,500 nonprofit organizations in Texas and Mexico since its inception in 1982.
