This image was later shared by former President Donald Trump on his Truth Social platform with a note expressing his excitement to meet them. Little did he know, the ties run deeper than expected.
The origin of the photo traces back to Charles Herbster, a former Nebraska gubernatorial candidate endorsed by Trump in the 2022 campaign. According to Herbster’s spokesperson, Rod Edwards, the individuals in the picture are relatives of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, who now stands as Kamala Harris’ running mate.
Delving deeper into the roots, Edwards revealed, “The family in the picture are the descendants of Francis Walz, who was the brother to Tim Walz’s grandfather.” This revelation was confirmed by Francis Walz’s descendants via a text message to The Associated Press.
In response to the circulating photo, a written statement from the Walz family explained, “We are the Nebraska Walz family and we are related to Gov. Tim Walz. Our grandfathers were brothers, and the message on our shirts speaks for itself, ‘Nebraska Walzs for Trump.'”
As the story unfolds, Tim Walz’s sister, Sandy Dietrich, shared her surprise at the distant family’s stance. Despite the differing political views, Dietrich stands firm in her support for her brother, labeling herself and her family as “Democrats for Tim.”
