Jimmy McCain Endorses Vice President Kamala Harris
Jimmy McCain, son of the late Senator John McCain, recently made headlines by announcing that he has registered as a Democrat and will be supporting Vice President Kamala Harris in the upcoming election. This move comes as a significant nod of support for the Democratic nominee in the battleground state of Arizona.
On the other side, Trump’s running mate, Ohio Sen. JD Vance, is set to appear at a rally in Phoenix with Turning Point USA, a conservative youth organization known for its ties to former President Donald Trump’s movement.
These endorsements and appearances reflect the diverse segments of the GOP that both Harris and Trump are trying to appeal to. While Democrats are reaching out to traditional conservatives disillusioned by Trump, Republicans are focusing on solidifying their base and ensuring high voter turnout among their young supporters.
Jimmy McCain, a former Republican who had been an independent since 2016, decided to switch his registration to the Democratic Party after a deployment overseas. He cited Trump’s visit to Arlington National Cemetery as one of the reasons for his decision.
Having served in the military himself, McCain was particularly moved by the significance of Arlington National Cemetery and felt that Trump’s actions disrespected the sacrifice made by those buried there.
McCain’s decision to endorse Harris and switch parties underscores his belief that country should come first, echoing his father’s 2008 campaign slogan.
Cindy McCain, John McCain’s widow, previously endorsed President Joe Biden in 2020, showcasing a trend of McCain family members supporting Democratic candidates.
