SAN ANTONIO – Police officers are often seen as heroes who go above and beyond the call of duty to help those in need. Two San Antonio Police East Side SAFFE officers recently exemplified this dedication by assisting a grandmother and her granddaughters who were living without air conditioning in their home.
The family endured six weeks of scorching summer heat, with temperatures reaching up to 107-108 degrees. The grandmother, Ramona Valencia, recalls her granddaughters complaining about the unbearable heat and sweating profusely. The situation was dire, but help was on the way.
The SAFFE unit, known for creating a Fear-Free Environment in the community, consists of officers who work closely with residents to address and resolve local crime issues. When Officers Victor Salinas and Abraham Trevino learned about the family’s lack of AC, they wasted no time in coming to their aid.
Donated a window AC unit, the officers quickly installed it in the home, bringing much-needed relief to the family. The granddaughters were overjoyed to finally have a cool place to play and relax.
However, the officers soon realized that the family was facing another challenge – their refrigerator was not functioning properly, leaving them with only frozen dinners to eat. Determined to make a difference, the officers rallied support from friends to provide a new refrigerator and groceries for the family.
Grateful for the officers’ kindness, Valencia expressed her heartfelt appreciation, calling their actions a true blessing. The officers’ compassionate gesture not only improved the family’s living conditions but also showed the community the positive impact of police involvement beyond law enforcement.
