DUBAI – In a suspected attack by Yemen’s Houthi rebels, a ship in the Red Sea was targeted on Monday, according to authorities.

Two projectiles hit the vessel, with a third explosion occurring near the ship, as reported by the British military’s United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations center.

“Damage control is underway,” UKMTO stated. “There are no casualties onboard, and the vessel is proceeding to its next port of call.”

Although the Houthis did not immediately claim responsibility for the attack, it is common for them to acknowledge their assaults hours or even days later.

Since the war in Gaza started in October, the Houthis have targeted over 80 vessels with missiles and drones. They have seized one vessel and sank two in the campaign, which also resulted in the death of four sailors. Some missiles and drones have been intercepted by a United States-led coalition in the Red Sea, while others have failed to reach their intended targets.

The rebels claim they target ships associated with Israel, the U.S., or the U.K. to pressure an end to Israel’s actions against Hamas in Gaza. However, many of the attacked ships have little to no connection to the conflict, including some heading to Iran.
