Breaking Records: Angel Reese’s Historic Season in the WNBA
Angel Reese made history in the WNBA on Sunday as she became the single-season rebounding leader with eight games left of the season. Despite the Chicago Sky’s loss to the Minnesota Lynx, Reese’s performance stood out with 17 points and 19 rebounds, securing her 24th double-double – a league rookie record.
Reese’s total of 418 rebounds at an average of 13.1 per game surpassed Sylvia Fowles’ previous record of 404 rebounds in 2018. The 6-foot-3 rookie also broke the record for offensive rebounds with 165, surpassing Yolanda Griffiths’ previous record of 162 in 2001.
Reese is in elite company with A’ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces as the only players in the league with at least four games of 15-plus points and 15-plus rebounds this season.
Courtney Williams shone for the Lynx with 22 points, while Kayla McBride added 17 points and Napheesa Collier scored 15, contributing to Minnesota’s 79-74 victory over Chicago.
Despite the loss, the Sky’s Kamilla Cardoso led her team with a career-high 22 points and nine rebounds, showing promise for the future.
The Lynx continue to dominate following the Olympic break, with an impressive 8-1 record, while Chicago’s playoff hopes are in jeopardy with their sixth straight loss.
Angel Reese’s incredible performance this season has solidified her as a rising star in the WNBA, breaking records and making a name for herself among the league’s best.
