The Rise of Jasmine Paolini at the U.S. Open 2024
NEW YORK – Jasmine Paolini made history by becoming one of the few women to reach at least the fourth round at every Grand Slam tournament in 2024. She achieved this feat at the U.S. Open for the first time with a stunning 6-3, 6-4 victory over No. 30 seed Yulia Putintseva on Saturday.
The fifth-seeded Paolini, a 28-year-old from Italy, had never advanced past the second round in her 16 previous major appearances. However, she broke barriers in 2024 by reaching the fourth round at the Australian Open, being the runner-up at both the French Open and Wimbledon.
Paolini’s impressive performance continued as she secured her spot in Week 2. With a dominating display of 22 winners, including 13 off her forehand side against Putintseva, Paolini set up a clash with 2023 French Open finalist Karolina Muchova on Monday.
In another exciting match, No. 6 Jessica Pegula of the United States advanced to the fourth round by defeating Jessica Bouzas Maneiro of Spain 6-3, 6-3 at Arthur Ashe Stadium. Pegula’s superb performance showcased her dominance as Bouzas Maneiro struggled with 29 unforced errors and only five winners.
Tomas Machac also made headlines by winning his first fourth-round match at a major, beating David Goffin 6-3, 6-1, 6-2.
The U.S. Open has witnessed thrilling matches, with top players like Coco Gauff and Karolina Muchova showcasing their skills on the court. Stay tuned for more updates as the tournament unfolds.
