SAN ANTONIO – Meet Troy Dahman, a Texas native and Navy veteran who experienced a mental health crisis leading to homelessness after leaving the Navy.
“I walked away from everything. My job. My life,” Dahman told KSAT.
Fortunately, Dahman received mental health assistance at a psychiatric facility and was eventually taken to Haven for Hope.
“I got some medications, had some counseling and they actually put me in a vehicle and sent me over downtown to Haven for Hope,” Dahman said.
Haven for Hope, a nonprofit, helped almost 1,000 clients secure permanent housing in 2023. Dahman was fortunate to find housing through their partnership with Endeavors six years ago.
Endeavors, a group focused on mental health services and finding permanent housing for those in need, played a crucial role in Dahman’s journey to stable housing.
Today, Dahman is grateful to be comfortably housed in a home Endeavors and Haven for Hope secured for him.
“I can never express in words how grateful I am for all of their support,” Dahman said.
Now a board member at Haven for Hope, Dahman wants to give back to the organization that provided him with so much support.
He wants others to know that turning your life around is possible with the right support and resources.
“Organizations out there will provide help, support and transition,” Dahman said. “They’re out there. These folks just need to be able to get connected.”
