CLEVELAND – The Kansas City Royals put on an impressive performance as they defeated the Cleveland Guardians 6-1 in a rain-delayed game on Tuesday night. Paul DeJong’s two-run homer sparked the Royals to victory, moving them into a tie with the Guardians for the top spot in the AL Central division.
The Guardians had held a commanding lead in the division since April 14 but have struggled recently, losing nine of their last 12 games. On the other hand, the Royals have been on a hot streak since the All-Star break, boasting a league-best record of 23-13.
DeJong’s home run in the second inning set the tone for the Royals, who later added three more runs in the seventh to seal the win. James McArthur picked up the win for Kansas City, striking out four in two innings of work.
The game was briefly interrupted by rain, causing a delay of over two hours. Despite the weather conditions, both teams exhibited great resilience and determination, making for an exciting matchup.
In the end, the Royals emerged victorious and now look forward to maintaining their momentum in the race for the division title.
Up next, the Royals will face off against the Guardians in the series finale, with RHP Michael Wacha taking the mound for Kansas City. Be sure to tune in to catch all the action!
