SAN ANTONIO – As summer rolls around, so do the pests. The combination of heat and humidity creates the perfect environment for bugs to invade your home. But fear not, there are steps you can take to keep your home pest-free.
Russell Childres, a technician at A-Bear Pest Control, explained that bugs are drawn to the coolness and protection offered by homes. They are on the lookout for food, water, and shelter, making your home an attractive option for them.
Childres emphasized the importance of sealing cracks, crevices, and gaps around doors to prevent bugs from finding their way inside. Additionally, he advised against blocking weep holes in brick houses, as they help maintain airflow and prevent mold growth.
Creating a gap around the perimeter of your house can also deter pests, as they are less likely to cross open areas where they can be seen and eaten by predators. Childres recommended regular yard maintenance, such as raking leaves and keeping grass cut short, to reduce pest populations during the hot summer months.
