Every new year brings new hope to a football program. After a challenging season with only one win, the Holmes Huskies are gearing up for a fresh start and are excited for what the upcoming season holds.
Despite the struggles of the previous year, the Huskies have revamped their team with younger, talented players in key positions, setting the stage for a potentially thrilling season ahead.
During one of their morning practices, players expressed how much more organized things feel this year and shared their high expectations for the upcoming football season.
Senior defensive lineman James Bruce voiced his confidence in the team, stating, “We’re more organized, and my teammates and I have been pushing each other to improve. My expectation is that we will come in stronger than last year, and with hard work, we will see better results.”
Sophomore wide receiver Jayden Hopkins noted the noticeable change in the team’s work ethic, highlighting their dedication in the weight room to improve performance on the field.
Head Coach Pete Padilla emphasized the importance of perseverance, stating, “We’re never going to give up, no matter the challenges we face. We are determined to fight until the end, showcasing our resilience as a team.”
The Huskies’ first game of the season is against rival John Jay High School on Aug. 31 at 7 p.m. at Gustafson Stadium.
