PARIS – The recent passing of French film legend Alain Delon has sparked much intrigue as it was revealed that he wished for his cherished sheepdog, Loubo, to be buried alongside him. However, to the relief of animal advocates nationwide, Loubo will be able to live on.
Delon, a highly regarded actor and producer on the global stage, died at the age of 88 and will be laid to rest on Saturday at his family estate in Douchy, located south of Paris.
In a 2018 interview with Paris Match, Delon shared his desire for Loubo, a Belgian Malinois he adopted in 2014, to be interred by his side. He expressed a deep connection with the dog, stating, “I’ve had 50 dogs in my life, but I have a particular relationship with this one. If I die before him, I’ll ask the veterinarian for us to leave together. I’d prefer that to knowing that he would let himself die on my tomb amid so much suffering.”
Following Delon’s demise, concerns arose regarding Loubo’s future. The Society for Protection of Animals in France offered to assist in finding a new home for the dog.
An official from the Brigitte Bardot Foundation, an influential animal rights organization associated with Delon, mentioned that numerous members had expressed worries about Loubo. However, Delon’s family assured them that the dog would be allowed to continue living in Douchy.
Delon had long been a supporter of the foundation and had contributed to its charitable endeavors over the years.
Although Delon’s family has yet to officially address the matter, it is comforting to know that Loubo will have a place to call home as a tribute to his late owner.
Renowned for his captivating performances on screen and his contributions to the arts, Delon will forever be remembered as one of France’s most iconic leading men.
