In a recent court ruling, a former Bexar County juvenile detention officer, Joshua Ortiz, was sentenced to 90 days in jail and two years probation for felony strangulation.
The incident occurred in July 2022 when Ortiz allegedly punched a woman in the face, threw her on a bed, and began choking her. The victim sustained visible bruising to both eyes and her neck, consistent with the assault.
Following his arrest, Ortiz was placed on leave from his position but later returned to work at the Krier Juvenile Correctional Treatment Center. However, he ultimately left his position after being indicted by a grand jury in March 2023.
Despite the jury’s verdict, Ortiz maintains his innocence as he serves his sentence. He is required to have no contact with the victim as part of his probation.
