Welcome Aboard: “Swept Away” Sets Sail for Broadway
NEW YORK – Exciting news for Broadway fans as the new musical “Swept Away” sets its course with a stellar cast, including John Gallagher Jr., Stark Sands, Adrian Blake Enscoe, and Wayne Duvall. These four stars will navigate the high seas of commercial success with this nautical tale.
Featuring songs from The Avett Brothers’ 2004 album “Mignonette,” the story revolves around four men stranded in the Atlantic Ocean after a 19th-century shipwreck. Set to premiere at the Longacre Theatre in October, “Swept Away” promises an unforgettable journey.
The Avett Brothers expressed their excitement, stating, “This musical, much like our relationship, revolves around the theme of brotherhood. Being able to watch John, Stark, Adrian, and Wayne team up in the development of ‘Swept Away’ over these years has been the precise definition of brotherhood.”
With a story by John Logan, “Swept Away” had successful runs at Berkeley Repertory Theatre and Arena Stage in Washington, D.C. Critics have lauded the show, comparing it to groundbreaking musicals like “Next to Normal” and “Dear Evan Hansen.”
Directed by Tony-winner Michael Mayer, the Broadway production brings together a talented cast with Gallagher, Sands, Duvall, and Enscoe. Mayer, known for his work on “Spring Awakening” and “American Idiot,” is thrilled to share this new creation with audiences.
Sands, a two-time Tony nominee, Duvall, recently seen in “1984,” and Enscoe, known for his work on Apple TV’s “Dickinson,” bring their expertise and passion to the production, promising a captivating performance.
While Broadway musicals set at sea are not uncommon, “Swept Away” aims to make a lasting impression, joining the ranks of beloved productions like “Anything Goes” and “Titanic.”
Don’t miss the chance to experience the magic of “Swept Away” when it docks at the Longacre Theatre this fall. Set sail on a journey of brotherhood, sacrifice, and redemption, and immerse yourself in a theatrical experience like no other.
