The Changing Landscape of Comfort, Texas
Welcome to Comfort, Texas – a town known for its tranquility and peace. However, residents are noticing a shift as the population in South Central Texas continues to grow.
“It’s getting crazier, and Comfort is growing,” Lizzeth Caldera, owner of Miguel and Leugim Tire Shop, shared. In early August, her father woke up to the shocking news that their service truck had been stolen, along with all the tools they needed for their business.
With car thefts on the rise in San Antonio, we decided to investigate if small towns like Comfort were affected as well. The city of Boerne reported stable numbers with minimal spikes in vehicle-related crimes.
- Across the year of 2018 – 47
- Across the year of 2019 – 72
- Across the year of 2020 – 70
- Across the year of 2021 – 47
- Across the year of 2022 – 89
- Across the year of 2023 (as of Aug. 16) – 45
The Kendall County Sheriff’s Office also noted a slight increase in these crimes, but nothing alarming. They provided the following statistics:
- From Aug. 19, 2022, to Aug. 19, 2023 – 15
- From Aug. 19, 2023, to Aug. 19, 2024 – 18
“It’s easy to get complacent,” remarked Lieutenant Kevin Klaerner from the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office. He advised residents to be proactive by securing their vehicles, removing valuables, and keeping their keys safe.
Fortunately, Caldera’s family company truck was recovered in San Antonio with minimal damage, although all their tools were stolen. Despite the loss, Caldera remains positive: “The good thing was that the truck was in perfect condition still.”
Stay vigilant and protect your belongings to ensure the safety of your vehicles. Let’s work together to keep our communities secure and thriving.
